Import License for Frozen Meat, Chilled Meat, Frozen Poultry and Chilled Poultry

 

The import of frozen meat, chilled meat, frozen poultry or chilled poultry requires an import license the Import and Export Ordinance, Cap. 60, import of frozen or chilled beef, mutton, pork and poultry is subject to import licensing control. Food and Environmental Hygiene Department is responsible for issuing import licenses for these foods. For details, please refer to the "Guide to Application for Import License for Frozen Meat, Chilled Meat, Frozen Poultry and Chilled Poultry" issued by Food and Environmental Hygiene Department.

 

Application Procedure

Importers of frozen meat, chilled meat, frozen poultry or chilled poultry should apply for the import license from the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department's Food Importer / Distributor Registration and Import Licensing
  1. Each consignment of the frozen meat, chilled meat, frozen poultry and chilled poultry is to be covered by one import license
  2. Application for import license should be made by completing the Import License Form 3 (TRA 187) in triplicate which is issued from Trade and Industry Department/ HKD 20- Per sets.
  3. License applications must be supported by a valid health certificate issued by the recognized issuing entity of the exporting country covering the consignment.

Validity of license

An import license is normally valid for one shipment only and for a period of 6 weeks from the date of issue.

Upon the full commencement of the Food Safety Ordinance on 1 February 2012, import license for frozen meat, chilled meat, frozen poultry and chilled poultry will only be issued to importers registered under the Registration Scheme for Food Importers and Food Distributors or food traders exempted under the Food Safety Ordinance.

Under the Food Business Regulation (Cap. 132X), anyone selling chilled meat and chilled poultry without permission is committing an offence. The maximum penalty is a fine of $50,000 and six months' imprisonment upon conviction.
