Expecting Taiwan as World’s Semiconductor Manufacturing Leader
Taiwan’s President, Tsai Ing-wen, told key figures in Taiwan’s semiconductor industry on September 24 that she hopes to make Taiwan a world leader in advanced semiconductor manufacturing processes. The members include the chairman of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (TSMC), the world's largest contract chip manufacturer.
The President said this is a key element of the next stage of economic development. Her administrative team emphasized several basic aspects of the department, including establishing a semiconductor research institute and strengthening education-related courses.
She told the executives that developing local talent and localizing at multiple stages of the semiconductor production process are important government policies she must implement. She added that Taiwan will be able to consolidate its position as a vital part of the global supply chain. She hopes that the semiconductor industry can successfully enhance its global competitiveness through cooperation with the government.
